Scientists found a piece of land under the Pacific Ocean that could be eighth mainland of the world. Zealandia, which is 94 percent south-west of the Pacific Ocean, showed that this could be the new mainland in the world.
About five million square kilometers of land is equivalent to one third of the Australian continent. North of New Zealand, Southern Island and New Caledonia are also connected to this eighth mainland.
Nick Mortimer, New Zealand Earth Scientist , said he worked on Zealandia for more than 20 years. Mortimer said that this continent is flooded but not broken. This is important in terms of exploring the fusion and breaking of continental crusts.
